Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, union leadership earlier this year took a cautious approach and scrapped plans for conducting the scheduled in-person quadrennial conference that traditionally spans two days at the union-affiliated Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education in Piney Point, Maryland. Instead, they opted for an online event in order to maximize safety.

 With SIU President Michael Sacco chairing the proceedings, the AFL-CIO Executive Council on Aug. 20 elected Liz Shuler, a visionary leader and longtime trade unionist, to serve as president of the federation of 56 unions and 12.5 million members. Shuler is the first woman to hold the office in the history of the labor federation.

COVID-19 vaccinations will be available at JAXPORT beginning on April 13. Vaccines will be available to all port workers, including tenants and partners.

Appointments are not necessary and you must bring your JAXPORT badge and a state-issued identification card, such as a driver’s license.

The UIW Virgin Islands Quarterly meeting will be held virtually via StarLeaf on January 25 from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm AST (4:30 pm - 5:30 pm EST). Topics will focus on the global COVID-19 pandemic and its various effects on the union and the rank-and-file membership.
